Natural hair has become more popular in recent years as black women everywhere have decided to put down harsh chemicals and stop relaxing their hair. There are 2 ways to become natural; transitioning – where you grow out your roots while continuously trimming the relaxed ends, and the big chop – you cut off everything and start afresh. I personally chose to do the big chop because I didn’t like the idea of having two visibly different textures on my head. Cutting off all my hair for the first time was possibly the most daunting thing I have ever done. To add to the trauma, I had absolutely no knowledge of natural hair. As Satou and I explain our natural hair journey in this video, it is evident that though we were skeptical at first, we have grown to love and become obsessive about our hair. Through time – and countless YouTube tutorials – we have both developed individual hair care routines that work best for our afros.
